The Mavic Mini is a tiny drone that is capable of capturing truly breathtaking videos and photos. Over the last few months I have compiled the best tips and settings for this drone so that you can capture professional videos and photos while improving your overall flight experience. |
*Recommended tips and settings* If you are using the automatic settings then you need to be aware of EV (exposure) and AE (auto-exposure). You can adjust the EV to expose your scene correctly and then lock the AE so that the drone doesn't change the exposure as the lighting conditions change. I also recommend enabling the histogram so that you have a visual representation of the scene, the histogram can also be helpful when using the EV to adjust the exposure. I also always enable the gridlines and over-exposure warning so that I can frame my scene correctly and remain mindful of the overexposed areas of the shot. Hand launching and catching is an easy way to take off and land when you have tall grass or uneven surfaces around you (be careful when you hand launch and hand catch your drone).

Manual settings were recently added to the Mavic Mini in April 2020 (v 01.00.0500), this means that you can adjust your shutter speed and iso - adjusting your manual settings correctly will take your videos/photos to the next level. I recommend changing your return-to-home altitude to 60-80 metres, this will ensure that your drone doesn't run into any tall trees or structures. Cinesmooth flight mode is also another handy setting to enable, this mode helps you capture smooth shots without jarring or abrupt movements. I would also recommend changing the gimbal pitch speed and pitch smoothness to 15 and enabling the upward gimbal rotation. Familiarising yourself with the transmission menu is really important, you can change to manual channel mode and select the channel with the least interference - this will improve range and flight performance. My final recommendation is tapping on the battery icon during your flight to monitor the temperature and voltage of your battery.
